Anyone who owned a Märklin H0 gauge model railway as a child is certainly still a fan of it today. As a rule, however, you don't have the facilities at home to set up your model railway permanently.
But now there is a new Mecca for model railway fans from all over the world in Bispingen in the Lüneburg Heath.
The model railway under the Snow Dome
The creators of the layout, which is located under the Snow Dome in the municipality of Bispingen, promise the largest model railway in the world. On an area of over 12,000 square metres, a model railway layout has been created here whose track is 600 metres longer than that of the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg.
However, the model railway world in Bispingen is not built in the H0 scale of the Märklin railway, but on a scale of 1:22.5, i.e. G-gauge, which is also known from garden railways. This makes the trains, which can be up to 30 metres long, easier to see for onlookers.
This is a great advantage, especially for smaller children, as the trains are easier to recognise and the worlds are larger. There are small ramps and stairs everywhere for the little ones to get a good overview.
50 themed worlds, from African deserts, Scottish moors and Chinese tea plantations to the Harz Mountains, await visitors. 50 creative minds from all over the world have built this installation. And it wasn't as easy as the Miniature Wonderland in Hamburg. Because the layout is covered, but open to the sides, it was not possible to use plaster, as is usually the case with modellers. Everything here had to be made weatherproof.
Two parts of the layout are still under construction, so that you have the opportunity to watch the creative modellers at work.
There is also a railway for children to ride on and a large playground.
Directions to the model railway
Motorway A7 exit Bispingen. Follow the signs to the Snow Dome. Parking is available in front of the Snow Dome, the model railway is under the Snow Dome, the entrance is to the left of the Snow Dome. Drive all the way through the car park to the bottom.
