The Purple
Coronation hiking trail will enchant you at any time of the year, but
especially in August and September when the heather is in full bloom. The trail
crosses the largest continuous heathland in Lüneburg Heath Nature Reserve. It
is the most beautiful route between the two heathland towns of Amelinghausen
and Schneverdingen, where the Heather Queen is crowned each year.

The hiking trail
crosses the Totengrund with its many juniper bushes, the popular car-free heathland
village of Wilsede, and the Haverbeeke River meadows. A highlight of your hike
is Wilsede Mountain: at 169 metres, this is the highest elevation in the North
German Plain.
